summer 2022 plans

I finished my last exam this past Tuesday, and I am officially done with my junior year of college and on summer break! It feels crazy that I’m about to be a senior; I feel like college has flown by way faster than high school ever did. I was talking with a friend the other day about how this is technically our “last summer”, before we graduate and (hopefully) have jobs we’ll be working at over the summers. Which is kind of sad to think about, that there won’t be any more summer breaks like we’re used to during the school year. I’m super excited for this summer though, and to have a complete break from school. I had such a busy and stressful past semester that I’m so glad to not be worrying about grades or exams or projects anymore. I actually have a really exciting summer ahead, and today’s post is all about my plans and goals for the next few months!

So I wrapped up my exams and am back at home in Oxford, but only for the next three weeks. On June 1, I am actually flying up to New York City to start my summer job as a nanny! I will be with a family of three boys all summer, mostly in the Hamptons and a bit in NYC. I’m really excited for the experience, and I can’t wait to get to know the family better and get close with the kids! I worked at a summer camp last year so I was away from home, but still saw my parents on the weekends. This will be the longest period of time I’m away from home, which is a little scary, but I know it will be such a good experience and way to get me out of my comfort zone. I know I’ll be working most of the week, but I’m also looking forward to having time to explore NYC/the Hamptons on my own and find new spots in the city! I love traveling and experiencing new places, and I know there will be so much to do. I also love the beach, so it will be nice to be near the water all summer. Overall, I know it will be a big summer of growth and new experiences for me. It will definitely push me out of my comfort zone, but I want to take advantage of my last “summer break” and try new things!

While I’m still home in Oxford, I really want to spend time with my family/friends and soak up my last few weeks in Mississippi. I am going on a trip with my family to Blue Ridge, GA next week to spend a few days in the mountains, which will be so fun! We’ll be hiking, horseback riding, and tubing, and we are staying at this really cool cabin. Besides that, I’ll mainly just be working at a local boutique, hanging out with old friends, and prepping for New York! Sometimes I feel bad for “being lazy” and just sitting at home not doing much. But I know that’s what I wished so badly for when I was drowning in schoolwork just last week, and I need to take advantage of the slower days!

A few things I want to do while home:

  • play tennis with my siblings
  • go fishing at the lake near my house
  • have a picnic lunch or dinner
  • wake up for a sunrise walk
  • go for runs at my favorite trail
  • get back into pilates every day
  • watch the Batman movies
  • read as much as possible
  • get frozen yogurt on the square
  • try new recipes

These are all simple, random ideas that I want to try to do while I’m home! Overall, I want these next few weeks to be restful and happy, just soaking up the last few days before I move! What’s on your summer bucket list?
