Having a Healthy Night Routine

Hello everyone! Today’s post is about having a healthy night routine. Sometimes my nights can get so busy and stressful if they are filled with homework and practices and preparing for the next day. It can get to be ten or eleven o’clock before I even go to sleep, and then the next morning I wake up tired and groggy. Recently I’ve (kinda) been able to manage my work and get all of my homework done before it gets too late, so I can relax the rest of the night. Here are a few tips and tricks you can try to have a better night routine.

If you’re like me and have sports practices directly after school, you might not get home until four or five in the afternoon. But don’t fret, there is still enough time to get everything done! When you get home, make yourself a snack and sit down to get to work. I like doing my short and simple homework while I eat my snack, and just get it out of the way. Some examples would be: a simple math assignment, finishing up a paper, taking notes, something that isn’t too hard. Try to finish your homework early so there isn’t an overload of work later that night.

Now, depending on how much homework you have, take a little break. If you are super busy and don’t have any time to rest, keep working. But it can be good to just relax for a little while. It’s your choice on choosing how long you make your break, depending on how busy you are. But just take a little bit to go outside, play with your dog, watch an episode of something, read a few chapters of a book, just take a break from schoolwork for a little while. It can be nice to relax!

I usually save studying for later at night for some reason, but I don’t really have any reasoning behind it. Maybe because it’s closer to the actual test day (by only like a few hours but anyway), or maybe it’s quieter and I can focus more, I don’t know. But after you’ve eaten supper and are in your quiet room, get all of the distractions out of the way and start your studying. You can read my post on studying here. Move your phone out of the way, try to focus, and obtain the information.

Once you’re done with all of your homework, now you can start relaxing and distressing. After I’m done I like to use the app Sworkit, which is a fitness app where you can choose how long you want to work out and it gives you exercises to do. I usually do this for 5 to 10 minutes, or longer depending on how much time I have. I also try to do my challenges for the day. I’m trying to do the month long plank challenge, ab challenge, and splits challenge. You can find things like these on Pinterest, or probably just by google searching “ab challenges”, if you want to try any of these.

You can get some of your morning duties out of the way by doing them at night, that way you won’t be so busy and rushing in the morning. Lay out your outfit for the next day in the floor. If you have sports after school, pack your sports equipment ahead of time. Have everything ready the night before.

To unwind and get ready for bed, I always like to read a book to help me fall asleep. Right now I’m reading a book called Dead End in Norvelt, and I usually fall asleep reading, because I’m so tired. Reading gets your eyes away from the screens and the loud noises, and it helps me get to sleep faster than anything else.

I hope this gave you some tips for your night routine! A few of the main points: get your work done early if possible, get ready for the next day, try to incorporate fitness into your night if you can. Happy Hump Day! We’re halfway through the week!
